Our Ladys Templemore produced a dominant performance to record a 12-point victory over Blackwater Community School Lismore at Littleton on Wednesday.

Both schools had their moments in the opening quarter though from an early stage, it was apparent that Blackwater Community School Lismore were struggling to score from play. After 15 minutes, Our Ladys Templemore led by 0-5 to 0-4 with six of the nine scores coming from placed balls, including all of Lismore’s from the caman of Aaron Ryan.

Eventually, Templemore’s superiority began to tell as they scored five of the next six points to lead by double scores after 20 minutes, 0-10 to 0-5. Blackwater then scored the first goal of the game as a high ball in to the full-forward line was caught by Oisin O’Gorman who turned and hit the back of the net from close range.

That green flag had little effect on the general run of play as Templemore continued to dominate for the remainder of the first half, outscoring their opponents by 1-5 to 0-0 in the last ten minutes with James Devaney scoring an impressive solo goal in the 22nd minute. At the interval, Our Lady’s led by 1-15 to 1-5.

Gearoid O’Connor opening the scoring in the second half from a free before Lismore gave themselves a fighting chance as Oisin O’Gorman set up substitute Jordan Murphy got their second goal. Any hopes of a second half comeback ended in the 38th minute when Conor Ryan hit the ball to the back of the net following a rebound off the crossbar and Templemore now led by 2-16 to 2-6.

That ended the game as a contest and just six further scores followed in the remaining 22 minutes of the game as Our Ladys Templemore got their Harty Cup campaign back on track after an opening day defeat.

In this three team group, John The Baptist Community School Hospital have already recorded a 12 point victory over Our Ladys and it would be a significant upset were Blackwater Community School Lismore to win their final game against Hospital. However, this is the Harty Cup and in Group A games thus far, Nenagh CBS lost by 13 points to Fermoy before defeating the defending champions Ardscoil Ris by 8 points this afternoon so you never know.
