CBC have big win in Harty Cup
C.B.C. Cork 6-19 Castletroy College 0-10

C.B.C. Cork were comprehensive winners over Castletroy College in the Dr Harty Cup at Kilfinane on Wednesday. From the start the winners gained control in the half-back line and midfield sectors ensuring plenty of supply to an attack that took some great scores. Over the hour, 10 C.B.C. players figured on the scoresheet while just 2 scored for Castletroy. Jack Cahalane (free) and Padraig Power had early points for the Cork side. Good play by Cahalane led to a well taken goal by Shane Barrett. Diarmuid Hegarty opened Castletroy’s account in the 8th minute. C.B.C. replied immediately when Niall Hartnett worked well for Padraig Power who goaled. Ronan Reale pointed a ’65 and a free for the Limerick side but it was C.B.C. who were complete masters. Good play by Declan Hanlon to Jack O’Kelly saw Hanlon take the return pass and blast to the net as C.B.C. moved 3-4 to 0-3 ahead. Jack Cahalane followed with a point from play and a free as the C.B.C. moved 12 points ahead 3-6 to 0-3. Ronan Reale had three late pointed frees for Castletroy while C.B.C. had their 4th goal just before the break when Shane Barrett, Jack Cahalane and Jack O’Kelly all combined for Owen McCarthy who made it 4-8 to 0-6 at the break.
There was no way back for Castletroy on the restart. They had a very good defender in Aidan Carroll. Both sides exchanged an early point with Owen McCarthy having his sides 5th goal after a long range free by Iarlaith Daly 5-10 to 0-7. Jack O’Kelly and Diarmuid Hegarty swopped a point before Niall Hartnett worked well for Jack Cahalane who goaled 6-11 to 0-8. Both sides made a number of substitutions. The Cork City side added a further 8 points with Ronan Reale having two points for the Limerick team in the closing moments.
