Mitchelstown CBS through to Munster Senior B FC final
Mitchelstowen CBS 2-21 Mount St Michael’s Rosscarbery 3-13 (aet)

Mitchelstown CBS senior (B) footballers had a good win in extra time over Mount St. Michael’s Rosscarbery on Wednesday in Mahon. The standard of football was excellent with the Carbery side having to start without flu victim Damian Gore. CBS opened with a 2nd minute point when P J Keating and Dylan Kent worked well for Mark Keane who kicked over. Sean Walsh who impressed at midfield added a point soon after. Myles Tobin opened the Rosscarbery sides account with a point. They edged in front in the 8th minute when Myles Tobin, Mark Hodnett and Darragh Hayes all combined with Hodnett taking the return pass and kicking a great goal. Mitchesltown were denied when Brian White’s effort came back off the crossbar. Both sides had some wides with Brian White closing the gap in the 15th minute from a free 1-1 to 0-3. The Carbery side responded with a second goal a minute later when Mark O’Sullivan fed the inrushing James O’Riordan who netted 2-1 to 0-3. CBS recovered well, They moved George Pendle to centre back with Dylan Kent going to midfield. Cathal O’Mahony pointed two frees and another from play with Brian White cutting through the centre and placing Cathal Harrington for the equaliser 2-1 to 0-7 at the break.
For the second half Mount St. Michael’s had the aid of the slight breeze. CBS made a master move with Cathal O’Mahony going to the ’40 and Brian White to the corner. Mount St Michael’s struck a purple patch and five points on the trot in quick succession had them 2-6 to 0-7 clear. They introduced their Co Minor player Damian Gore and they looked like advancing to the final.
CBS battled back well. Their full back closed out any real danger from the Ross attack. They won vital possession in the backline and at midfield they won the aerial tussles with Mark Keane, Dylan Kent and Sean Walsh fetching some great balls. Cathal O’Mahony kicked a fine point with Dylan O’Gorman and Mark Keane working well for Brian White who kicked an excellent point. Darragh Hayes pointed for Carbery. CBS were within a point in the 45th minute when Mark Keane and Cathal O’Mahony worked well for Padraigh O’Gorman who goaled 2-7 to 1-9.
Good play by Dylan Kent and George Pendle led to an equalsing point by Cillian Dollion. Both sides were off target, CBS forced two ’45s but both went wide. The North Cork side hit the front in the 5lst minute through Cathal O’Mahony. With six minutes to go Dylan Kent worked well for Cathal O’Mahony who opened up a two point lead 1-12 to 2-7. Good play for ‘Ross’ by James O’Riordan led to a Damian Gore point. Fintan Barrett saved well from Brian White before Cathal O’Mahony opened up a two point lead again 1-13 to 2-8. Damian Gore pointed a free. Good play by Dylan Kent led to a fine point by Padraigh O’Gorman. In the dying moments Gore pointed two frees the second from a very tight angle to force extra time on a 1-14 to 2-11 scoreline.
In extra time Damian Gore edged Mount St. Michael’s ahead. CBS came very strong. Mark Keane put Sean Walsh in for a point. Cillian Dollion worked well on the flank for Brian White who kicked a great point. The all important score for CBS came in the 5th minute when Dylan Kent won a vital ball in midfield and placed George Pendle whose effort was saved by Fintan Barrett with the rebound coming to the well placed Padraigh O’Gorman who goaled from close range opening up a four point lead 2-16 to 2- 12. O’Mahony and Sean Walsh followed with points that had CBS six clear at the break 2-18 to 2-12.
The winners did well on the resumption adding two early points. Mount St. Michael’s had a goal by Mark Hodnett after good play by Damian Gore to come within five points 2-20 to 3-12. Cillian Dollion placed Sean Walsh for CBS concluding point. In injury time Dylan Gore pointed a free. The final whistle followed and CBS were through to the Munster final on February 4 v Rockwell College or Coachford College.
