Report by Brian O’Donoghue (Youghal)
On a bright and windy Thursday afternoon in Whitechurch was the venue for a very competitive and enjoyable Munster Final. It was the day of Pobalscoil na Trionoide Youghal who retained the Shéamuis Mhic Ghabhann Cup. It was a great campaign for Pobalscoil who had three fine victories before the final. This match was very competitive and started very evenly with points exchanged for the first 15 minutes leaving it 06-4 to Pobalscoil but two goals in quick succession changed the tide to Patrician Academy Mallow. The match was very competitive and both teams had a purple patch in the first half. The half finished with a few points from placed balls by Pobalscoil which sent them in three points behind at half time 2-8 to 0-11.
Patrician started the second half well with a pointed free. Pobalscoil stayed in touch with a few points and they started to get on top aided by a strong wind. The puckouts by Pobalscoil goalkeeper Jack Corcoran had a big influence on the game with his long and accurate puck. James Murray’s goal 15 minutes from the end was a vital score as it put Pobalscoil three points up and they were on the front foot. From that point on Pobalscoil scored two more goals to put the game out of sight. Massive praise to both teams on a great contest. Final score Pobalscoil na Trionoide 3-17 Patrician Academy 2-11. Well done to the Management team from Pobalscoil of Michael Walsh and Padraig O’Donovan.
