Ennistymon CS claimed victory over PBC Cork on Friday February 14th in a competitive game, which ended on a scoreline of 2-8 to 0-8.

The damage was done in the first half with Ennistymon 7 points to the better at half time, having played against the wind. PBC got the first score of the match through Daniel Mellerick, but this was followed with a green flag for ECS as Joshua Daniels finished to the net. Some fine points ensued with Jack Tompkins (3) (PBC) and Com Breen, Conor Burke, Donncha O’Dwyer and Seanán Kirby all getting on the score sheet. Jack Cullinan’s crucial interception set up Joshua Daniels again but he was subsequently pulled down in the square. Burke cooly slotted home. Jack Gallagher completed the scoring for ECS with a 45 to leave the halftime score 2-5 to 0-4.

The second half was a more cagey affair with Ennistymon trying to keep PBC away from the goals. Substitute Bobby Kelleher penetrated the defense and looked like goaling, but staunch pressure from the backs led to his effort being forced over the bar. After this ECS and PBC traded 3 points each. A penalty for PBC, in the last play of the game, was brilliantly saved by Gallagher and the final whistle led to jubilant scenes for the ECS team and supporters.

ECS now look forward to an All Ireland semi final v St Pat’s Keady (Armagh) on Saturday February 22nd in St Croan’s GAA, Roscommon at 1:30pm.
