2022/2023 Corn Dhonncha Uí Nuanáin (Under 19 B Football) Quarter-Final – Ennistymon CBS 1-12 Coachford College 0-15 (Ennistymon won 4-3 on penalties)

Ennistymon and Coachford put on a very enjoyable show in Mick Neville Park Rathkeale on Friday, November 25th, requiring penalties to separate the teams after nearly 100 minutes of football.

Senior B Munster Football Quarter Final

Ennistymon started the brighter and found themselves 0-4 to 0-1 ahead 15 minutes in, thanks to scores from Eanna Rouine, Mark Callinan and Paudie Considine. By half time Coachford had drawn level on 5 points apiece.

The second half saw the lead switch to Coachford, until Seanai Mcmahon of CBS was dragged down in the square. Eanna Rouine made no mistake with the penalty, having been unlucky in the previous minutes to see his rasper of a shot come off the crossbar. With six minutes of injury time to be played Coachford stepped up a gear and had enough in the tank to bring the game to extra time on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-12.

The first half of extra time started similarly to normal time with Ennistymon notching three points on the board to Coachford’s two. It was all to play for in the last 10 minutes, but again the sides couldn’t be separated. Full time score – 1-12 to 0-15.

Over to penalties. Coachford started the penalty process with a well-taken goal, while on the other hand Ennistymon were unlucky to see their shot squeeze outside the post and wide. Coachford’s second effort rose over the crossbar and Ennistymon’s Joshua Vaughan slotted home to leave the score one all after two penalties. The third penalty from Coachford was superbly saved by John Nea and Joe Hanrahan put Ennistymon ahead with his effort. Both the Coachford player and Ennistymon’s Kevin Nunan scored their fourth penalty and silence descended for the remaining shots. Coachford scored as did Eanna Rouine for Ennistymon, giving Ennistymon the win and ending a fantastic game of football between two excellent sides.
